Lejla Cenanovic was born in Bosnia and Hercegovina, growing up there briefly before moving to Canada where she currently resides. She graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design, majoring in painting. She prefers mainly to work traditionally with oil paint on canvas, often working from photographic reference as well as memory. Lejla is very inspired and driven by various human aspects - personal and impersonal - and is why she enjoys painting portraits and portrayals of people using narrative. Her influences are vast, and include Odd Nerdrum, David Salle, John Currin, Jenny Saville, Dan Kennedy, and Jeff Koons to name a few. She is currently practicing in Calgary, Alberta.
